Is it a bit much ?????

I have been meaning to write this post for a while but what with a teething child, work, college as well as everything else. Having two minutes to sit down and actually write has been pretty hard work.

This post for me is really to get something of my chest that has been annoying me for a while.

So we are now in the mist of summer and it’s around this time of year something happens and it really gets on my nerves.

Not that every tom dick and harry decide on a Friday they want to drive through the town I live in to go on holiday when there is a perfectly good duel carriageway that they have built for this  but decide not to use and instead clog our small roads with there jammed packed cars and caravans. So it ends up taking me way longer to drive the short 4 miles home.

mind you i do feel better getting that bit out, well until Friday when i’m stuck in the car again screaming that i just WANT TO GO HOME !!!

No what really gets on my nerves is this new fad that seems to be creeping into schools, in fact the worst one i have seen of these was a baby sensory class and that is insane.

What am i talking about you may ask and that is a need for having “GRADUATION CEREMONIES” for finishing a year of school.

Come on guys  what is going on !!!

I’m not saying that we shouldn’t celebrate special achievements of our children and when William goes to school I am going to be super proud of everything he does well and so we should. But what I don’t agree with is donning caps and gowns for finishing nursery, primary schools high school years.

The cap and gown is what you wear after you have finished all the years of education and you have your degree that you have worked your arse of for over god knows how many years.

What i’m scared of is will this new fad of making the children wear these outfits dilute the actual event its really made for, i honestly just think it’s another ploy to get money out of parents when they already have to spend a fortune on uniforms and trips and god knows what else over the year.

So now they will have to pay for these and you can’t not do it can you because then your child will be the odd one out. But  on top of that you are going to have photographers coming in and selling overpriced pictures.

I never went to university so have never had that opportunity but Catherine has and her picture is up in the living room and I’m so proud of everything she has achieved. But would it be the same if there were 10 other pictures around it of her in a cap and gown after she “graduated” year 7, year 8, and year 9 probably not.

Let’s face it you’re not graduating a year you are simply finishing a school year and going back in September to carry on with more.

You have every right not to agree with me, the above is only my opinion and I hope you can see where I’m coming from.

This subject has irritated me for some time and needed to get it out and what better way than on my blog for everyone to see, if you don’t agree with me please be kind i haven’t had much sleep this week 🙂

  1. I agree 100% with this! I went to university for 4 years and worked so hard…wearing the gown and the cap at the end was a symbol of all the hard work I put in. Yes, children’s achievements should be celebrated but in a less adult way!

    1. 100% I had to write it for exactly that reason when you wore the cap and gown that should be the only way all these proms and graduation it’s all a bit much and I’m hoping by the time William is at school it’s has blown away

  3. I couldn’t agree more! Graduation is for when you finish uni, when you celebrate working so hard to earn a qualification that will (in theory) set you up for the working world. Not cos you finished Year 4 at primary school! PS, someone did one for a sensory class!!!!?? #thatfridaylinky
